Problems you may encounter while Home Brewing

Sometimes, things don’t work out the way you would have liked. The best thing that can be done is to understand the reasons for it, so that you can avoid making the same mistakes again. After you’ve put a couple of mishaps behind you, you will become a better brewer for it.

A poor seal can be responsible for putting a halt to your brew. The fermentation process needs an airtight seal on the bucket. This problem won’t spoil your batch, but it will take some time to fix, and you can’t continue without it.

There is a chance you could come across a bad or very old source of yeast that doesn’t react properly. Yeast can be reenergized by adding some water before you put the yeast in the batch.

Temperature is a very specific issue with brewing. If the temperature becomes too cold, the yeast won’t be able to work. If there is a large difference in the temperature of the water and the temperature that the yeast was re-hydrated in, you will have to adjust one or the other. Too cold and the yeast will freeze, too hot and it will boil.

If there is no clear-cut problem, you may have an issue with sanitation. Make sure that all the equipment you use is washed very well. Moulds and bacteria can turn a promising brew into an odd smelling drink that nobody will touch. Keep a sharp eye out from problems and nip them before they can nip you. Custom usb drives are a handy way to store tips and advice on any subject.
