Why Home Brew?

The popularity of brewing beer at home is increasing worldwide. People are creating their own flavours and types of beers. Kits for brewing beer are widely available, and many cities have brew stores where you can purchase items for home brewing. Home brewing has been around for centuries, so why has it suddenly become so popular?

Once you have made the initial investment in the equipment needed to brew beer at home, home brewed beer can be much less expensive than buying beer at the store or in a restaurant or bar. Brewers of homemade beer also like to flavour their brews to make them tasty and unique. For home brewers who love dark beer they can brew beer that is darker than the ones available on the market.

Brewing beer at home gives the brewer the ability to determine how strong the beer will be. If you desire a beer with low alcohol content, you can adjust for alcohol levels by increasing or decreasing the yeast added to the wort during the fermenting process. The same follows for making stronger beer. You control the alcohol level during the fermentation process of the brew. Home brewers can also make “light” beers if they are concerned about weight gain.

Once the home brewer has perfected his art, he may decide to begin experimenting with different flavours or even move on to wines and liqueurs. There are also many competitions held for home brewers. These competitions are fun, with a festival-like atmosphere where the home brewer can mix and mingle with others who share his love of brewing.
